Information from Carlsbad Police Department Media Line (released at 5:45 p.m. by Lt. Paul Mendez)
A woman is dead tonight in Carlsbad after being stabbed in the parking lot of a shopping mall. Carlsbad Police received a 911 call for the report of a woman in need of medical attention because she was bleeding in her chest. Police responded, along with fire, to 5814 Van Allen Way around 4:30 friday night. The Carlsbad Fire department responded, but unfortunately, she was pronounced dead on scene. Police are calling her death suspicious. A BOL (be on the lookout) was put out to all surrounding agencies in the area because the suspect was no where to be found when Police arrived on scene. The suspect is a white male with the name of John Carlos Monta, (5’7, 148 lbs, and drove away in a white sedan with the license plate of 3VSW264). This suspect information is from the BOL that I heard on my scanner, so it is advised to call Carlsbad Police dispatch at (760) 931-2197 to confirm that information. He is considered armed and dangerous and is outstanding after the stabbing.
